In the case of the ancillary equipment it is often the case that a farmer can hire a machine that he could not justify buying for his acreage. The hire machine will do his job better and be more reliable. As an example, a SAMON Onion Windrower costing £12,000 can be hired to lift 20 acres of Onions at a cost of £700. The Onion grower with 20 acres could not justify the capital expense, but by hiring the machine he can have all the advantages of a new machine for minimal cost.
